      <image:title>2023 - Resolute Solitude</image:title>
<image:caption>Acrylic and oil on canvas, 50"x32" April 2021 - the devastating covid second wave caught everyone unawares in India. Among the many who had it hardest were the elderly, including my septuagenarian mother in Kolkata, India. She had already spent the previous year in isolation for the most part - away from family, in never ending lockdowns. I sensed the emotional toll covid had taken on her and the shadows that still lingered from that time. At the same time I saw the resilience and strength that made her a fighter and a covid survivor today.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2023 - Colors of home</image:title>
<image:caption>Oil on canvas panel, 24"x36" কৃষ্ণ চূড়া (krishna chura in bengali), गुलमोहर (gulmohar in hindi), royal poinciana, Delonix Regia (scientific name). It's a flower that reminds me of home in India that was once the only home I knew. For 3-4 weeks every year in early summer it mesmerizes with its verdant green, luscious red, the highlights of white with specks of yellow and red. Nature has always known best which colors to paint with.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2024 - When I rolled and you fried, 2024</image:title>
<image:caption>Acrylic and oil on canvas, 34" x 56" As a first-generation immigrant from India, the traditional foods I grew up with hold a special place. Despite being labor-intensive and requiring skill, traditional foods that were a regular before, are reserved for special occasions now. Immigration brought about significant changes in my life, including food, values, and personal identity. The relationship dynamic between my mother and I is no exception, as we navigate the complexities of adapting to new cultural norms while reminiscing about the wistful past.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2024 - Wedding Equivalence</image:title>
<image:caption>Acrylic and oil on canvas, 30" x 30" This self-portrait draws on the artist's experience as a Bengali Indian bride on her wedding, a day often romanticized as the happiest day of a woman's life. However, the artist's poignant depiction invites viewers to examine the deeply entrenched patriarchal customs that reinforce and perpetuate gender inequality.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2022 - Durga in Purnima</image:title>
<image:caption>Gold, oil and acrylic on canvas, 48"x38" Purnima (the artist's mother) is shown in her youth as an embodiment of goddess Durga, who is a symbol of beauty, ferocity and strength in Indian mythology. This painting is an imaginative reality from the past, drawn from personal narratives, photographs and an understanding of the indomitable spirit that lives in Purnima even today.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2022 - Us in the future past</image:title>
<image:caption>Acrylic, oil, photo transfer on canvas, 45"x31" The saree - a garment shrouded in mystique and sensuality, a garment that hides as much as it reveals, a garment so unwieldy that wearing that properly is in itself an art - is much more than a 6 yard garment worn by women in India. It's a textile that is imbued with deep meaning and traditions - one of which is that of a daughter helping her mother get dressed in a saree. This painting, while traversing time, is an ode to the women in the artist's family.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Collage, acrylic, oil on canvas, 18"x24" As an embodiment of many different identities, I often find myself at the crossroads of these hyphenated existences that pull me constantly and place bids upon my being. And I think of a carefree time in life when these identities had not yet formed; I was just there - on the tree - and that was all that mattered.
